Congratulations to Jennifer Scott
It's a pleasure to announce that Jennifer Scott successfully defended her PhD dissertation, "The Business of Writing Home: Authorship and the Transatlantic Economies of John Galt's Literary Circle, 1807-1840." Jen's work is a significant contribution both to the scholarship on Galt and to literary-cultural methodologies. Congratulations Jen, we're proud of the work you have done and we look forward to your future contributions to your field!
"Virginia Woolf and the Common(wealth) Reader," will be held at the Coast Plaza Hotel and Suites at 1763 Comox Street, Vancouver.
SFU will begin large-scale migration of courses from WebCT to the Canvas learning management system in May 2013. Nicky Didicher, Senior Lecturer in the Department of English, is one of many SFU instructors currently piloting Canvas-based courses.
Gladstone Secondary English teacher and SFU alumna, Shirley Burdon, is pioneering a high school course in Vancouver that introduces a new generation of students to the rich tradition of First Nations literature.

Welcome to the Department of English at Simon Fraser University. Whether you are contemplating undergraduate or graduate studies or seeking employment with us, I hope you find the information on this website useful and informative. Our Department offers a comprehensive program of undergraduate and graduate study leading to the BA, BA (hons), MA and PhD degrees. We are one of the largest and most dynamic departments in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with 35 regular faculty members, some 600 undergraduate majors, 200 minors, 60 graduate students and course offerings across the complete spectrum of English studies of some 170 courses per year at our Burnaby, Harbour Centre and Surrey campuses. We also offer comprehensive distance education courses, a Writer in Residence Program, and provide cooperative learning opportunities.
