Anglo-Saxon Manuscripts in Microfiche Facsimile is an ongoing international and collaborative scholarly project that publishes microfiche facsimiles of manuscripts containing Old English, ranging in date from as early as the seventh century and as late as the fourteenth century, many of which have never been fully or adequately catalogued or described. The facsimiles are accompanied by entirely new histories, codicological descriptions, inventories of contents, and bibliographies for each manuscript, and are written by scholars from all over the world (Canada, the United States, England, New Zealand, and elsewhere) who have examined the manuscripts first-hand. The aim is to make this resource available in a convenient, economical, and durable form as an everyday study and reference tool, not only in the richest and largest libraries, but also in the libraries of individuals and smaller institutions. ASMMF will eventually encompass the nearly 500 manuscripts containing Old English, and the whole series will be concluded with a general index of contents to make the vast amount of material contained in the series readily findable. Each volume contains between eight and fifteen fiche facsimiles and a small book containing the manuscript descriptions. ASMMF makes available—at low cost—material otherwise only accessible by visiting these manuscripts’ home libraries, and provides new up-to-date descriptions and references for these manuscripts, making for a scholarly tool that serves research in the fields of language, history, literature, art history, theology, history of the book, and more.

Anglo-Saxon Manuscripts in Microfiche Facsimile has received generous on-going support from the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1994. ASMMF is published by Medieval and Renaissance Texts and Studies, and is available by subscription or by individual volume.
